Grounding for a new year of faith formation

One of my favourite authors in the area of faith formation is Joyce Ann Mercer, professor of practical theology at Virginia Theological Seminary. She has a fabulous book that I've cited in a number of my undergrad and seminary papers, called Welcoming Children: A Practical Theology of Childhood. I recently discovered her personal blog and her most recent post, Faith Formation: Best Teaching Practices with Children and Youth is one that I believe can set the stage for a new year of faith formation. At least it will for me!

The best curriculum for forming children, youth, and anyone else in Christian faith is guided participation in a community of practice where people are vibrantly, passionately risking themselves together in lives of faith in a world crying out for the love of Christ (Mercer, 2013).
